Hi Folks! I apologize that it has been so long since we’ve given you an update. A lot has happened since our last post! Unfortunately we had to leave our home of 3 years at 10 Boylston Place because the lot is being turned into condos. We planned on moving into a warehouse space in Allston in May, but that fell through as well. SO we are back at square one and are looking for a space! If you know of anyone who has a spare garage or other space that they would be willing to let us use for no or very low cost, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or get in touch with us via our facebook page. In the meantime, we hope you’re having a great summer and look forward to being able to host you in our new space!
We setup a PayPal account, which you can find a shortcut to on our website. We had a meeting yesterday and decided that we would take donations, as we either need to pay for some sort of security measures and/or start to think about rent. The money would also be going towards replacing the stolen items and, like your previous donations, would go towards purchasing disposable items such as cables and housing.
We have decided to hold off on accepting donations of bikes, tools and parts, as the shop is completely empty right now and may remain that way for the remainder of the winter. We are having another planning meeting next week to determine our path forward, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
Thank you so much for your generous offers of all kinds that we’ve been getting. We appreciate you so much!
There has been a lot of talk about our choice regarding police involvement. Please navigate over to thecommunityspoke.org, where we have prepared a statement about our decision. Hopefully this clears things up a bit with folks.
Thank you for your support!
Tools, parts, and bikes were stolen. Please keep an eye out for a brown/copper colored ANT cycle truck (picture below) with a 20″ front wheel and a very large front basket and an older steel metallic turquoise Miyata mountain bike with an Xtracycle conversion kit. These are very recognizable bikes, and we use them to transport our tools and mobile workshop supplies to do free bike repair away from the shop. If you have heard anything about our tools or bikes, please email us at email@example.com or call Alex at (910) 547-4843 or Dora at (516) 658-4224.
It’s very sad to have to close under these circumstances, but we will make every effort to reopen next season. Thanks again, y’all have been great.
Sorry it’s been a while. We’ve been so (awesomely!) busy this summer, with the most volunteers and the most customers EVER.
On Friday, September 21st we’re participating in a sweet Bike Swap at Headquarters Boston, hosted by the Back Bay Cycling Club.
We’ll be setting up a vendor space so we can fund our plans for the winter when the donations slow down quite a bit. Of course, 100% of your donations/purchases will go directly into The Spoke. We will be selling our best, shiniest used parts (at extremely competitive prices) along with $3 tubes!!!
We’d love to see you there, it’s supposed to be really great with lots of vendors and lots of sponsors with raffles and sweet prizes.
And don’t forget that tonight, along with every Tuesday night, is Open Shop night from 6-9!
Y’all have made our summer amazing. Thank you and see you tonight!
Sorry it’s been so long since we’ve posted but we’d like to invite you over for some bike fixing tonight!
It’s Women & Trans night from 7-10pm, find the Facebook event here.
For folks stopping by for the first time, we’re at 10 Boylston Place in Jamaica Plain, right by the Stony Brook T stop. We’re the last driveway on the left.
Hope to see you there!
Come visit us at Bikes Not Bombs’ Bike-A-Thon/Green Roots Festival Sunday June 3rd from 12:00 noon to 5:30pm, weather permitting.
If the rain doesn’t hold out, visit the above web site for an announcement (the rain date is June 24th) and/or our facebook page for a cancellation notice.
We had a great time last year, and we hope to see you folks out there on Sunday. Good luck to all of the riders doing the Bike-A-Thon!
PLEASE NOTE that the Green Roots Festival is on the first Sunday of the month, which is when we would usually host our mobile clinic in Central Square but WE WILL BE AT THE FESTIVAL INSTEAD. We may reschedule our mobile clinic for another time in June, we’ll definitely keep you posted!!
Thank you so much to everyone who came out to our tables both at Wake Up The Earth Festival and our monthly mobile clinic in Central Square.
Sorry that we did not have fliers to give out to you folks, but we will next time!
For those who we gave our contact info to this weekend and are visiting the site for the first time, I’ll do a quick run down of our info:
Our shop, which is located at 10 Boylston Place in Jamaica Plain, is open every Tuesday from 6-9 pm. We are just a few blocks from the Stony Brook T stop, which is on the Orange Line. Boylston Place is a short dead end street off of Boylston Street. We are the last driveway on the left.
We also set up in Central Square on the first Sunday of every month, at the same spot that we were at on the corner of Prospect Street and Mass Ave.We’re there from 3-6pm.
We are at the shop on Tuesday no matter what the weather is, but if it is raining on the first Sunday of the month we will not be in Central Square that day.
Thank you so much again!
WOW this coming weekend is chock full of TCS fun!
Saturday (05 May 2012) we’ll be setting up at Jamaica Plain’s WAKE UP THE EARTH DAY FESTIVAL from noon to 6pm. And Sunday (06 May 2012) we’ll be doing our mobile clinic at the corner of Mass Ave & Prospect St. in Central Square from 3-6pm!! We’d love so much if you came to volunteer and help us out, as we’ll be a bit short staffed for these events. And of course, we hope to see you and your bike and give you both high fives!
For both events we’re going to meet at the shop at least an hour before the above posted time so we can pack and get everything together so we can ride to our destinations. So we’ll be at the shop at 11am on Saturday and 1pm on Sunday, so we can leave by 2pm and get to Central by 3:00. We’d love to see you there!
Wake Up The Earth is a rain or shine event, but for our clinic on Sunday, rain is a no go! We will post on our facebook if we are cancelling anything. Unless otherwise noted, we will see you Saturday AND Sunday!!
Feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or post on our facebook with any questions/comments.
And, last but certainly not least, thanks so much to everyone who came out to Open Shop last night! The weather was terrible but the company was terrific!!
We have lots of announcements today! Be sure to scroll down to check them all out, including Lady/Trans Night and our nomination in the JP Patch for best bike shop in JP!
Lastly, but certainly not least, today is Tuesday and you know what that means: Tonight is open shop night! We’ll be wrenching in the shop from 6-9pm, so bring your bikes and let’s get them fixed up for the beautiful bike-riding weather!
